How to Check Car Oil
Motor oil is considered the lifeblood of your Toyota vehicle, and because of that, it’s essential to make sure your vehicle always has the proper amount of oil to keep the engine’s internal moving parts protected. This allows your vehicle to continue running smoothly on the streets of Las Vegas and Boulder City.
Learn How to Check Oil Level in Car
Some newer vehicles have electronic oil monitors that don’t use the traditional dipsticks many drivers are used to. It’s best to begin by referring back to your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you are checking the oil manually at home, follow the easy step-by-step guide below:
- Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground and that the car is turned off and the engine is cold.
- Pop the hood and find the oil dipstick.
- Pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe off any oil with a paper towel.
- Re-insert the dipstick all the way back into its tube, then pull it out and look at both sides to see where the level is.
When you remove the dipstick, it will indicate the proper oil level. If the top of the oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, your vehicle’s oil level is sufficient. If not, you will need to add more oil.
Make sure you purchase the grade recommended in the owner’s manual, then remove the oil filler cap, and add oil a little bit at a time until the dipstick indicates you have reached the proper level. When you’re checking the oil level, be sure to remove the oil with a paper towel to ensure you’re getting an accurate reading. Once the oil is at the proper level, close the hood. And you’re done!
